In her essay, Bea Belen-Ferrer traces back the history of cacao in the Philippines, and the development of its culture.
Belen-Ferrer(b. 1988) is a researcher and artist based in the Philippines.
She is currently working as a museum staff in Manila, Philippines. In her personal capacity, she focuses on various topics dealing with the Philippine cultural heritage.
Belen-Ferrer finished her Bachelor of Fine Arts Major in Advertising Arts at the University of Santo Tomas, and holds a Master of Marketing Communications degree from the De La Salle University-Manila. As a visual artist, her works revolve around nostalgia and visualizations of memories, as her expression of the need to remember and archive for posterity.
Some of the projects she had participated in as a visual artist are 'A Part to Play' at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila in 2020, 98B Bi-annual Exhibition ESC2018: Sakso, Escolta, Manila, and Bloom Arts Festival in 2017, in Poblacion, Makati. She won a 3rd Grand Prize at the 11th GSIS Art Competition for Non-representational Art in 2015.
